Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.
Last Friday, the area was blanketed in a heavy smoky haze due to a wildfire across the river....
And your all-volunteer Croton Fire Department was there to answer the call for help.
FROM THE CROTON FIRE DEPARTMENT FB PAGE: On Friday, Tanker 10 was requested to the Nyack/Orangeburg Fire Districts in Rockland County to assist with an enormous brush fire they were fighting. The blaze started the prior afternoon and continued to grow into Friday morning.
Tanker 10, with a crew of four under the command of Chief John Munson, answered the call and remained on scene for nearly eight hours.
Other Westchester County units on the scene or covering firehouses in Rockland included Banksville T7, Briarcliff E93, Ossining E97, Irvington E178, Tarrytown E80/L37 & Yorktown E273.
As of this writing, reports indicate the fire has finally been extinguished. Good job to those involved!
